In an endeavour to make yoga a part of campus life, the Gauhati University (GU) has geared up to celebrate the International Day of Yoga on June 21 in collaboration with over 300 colleges affiliated to it.
The premier university in the northeast started yoga sessions for the university fraternity and people living in the vicinity of the campus about two months ago.
"Yoga has provided relief to the students and university staff. Practising yoga has been quite beneficial for the students going through the stress of exams. With the progress of the yoga sessions, we have noticed that more people are getting interested in practising yoga. Of late, some research scholars and faculty members have joined the yoga training sessions," said Ranjan Kumar Kakati, director, student's welfare, at GU on Wednesday.
As per instructions from the Union ministry of AYUSH, the university authorities have instructed the colleges to celebrate the day.
For conducting the yoga sessions, the GU authorities have tied up with Vivekananda Kendra, a leading spiritual organization that has been pioneering yoga training in the country.
